Following the Grenfell Tower disaster, new regulations have been introduced to ensure that such a disaster can never happen again. One important aspect of this is to require a detailed building safety risk assessment, called a Safety Case, for all in-scope buildings. This is similar to existing regulations that control major accidents at other high hazard facilities such as refineries, oil & gas production plants and nuclear power stations. The Health & Safety Executive has been appointed under the Building Safety Act 2022 as the Regulator for building safety.
